Mind you, it can be … Mind you, it can be a very useful product depending on the source image, but like I said, it’s nothing but yet another tool in the toolbox labelled “extracting images”.
Once I saw on their … Once I saw on their forum how they showed how to remove a background. I pointed out that this particular image didn’t need FluidMask at all, I even showed them which technque to use and oh my…they didn’t like that…bad advertising…so they deleted my post…cough, cough…by “acccident” they said.
Back to FluidMask. … Back to FluidMask. I actually know the person who owns the place, believe it or not. I was actually one of the forces that convinced him to release version 2 (it’s now at 3) as soon is possible.
Oh btw IceflowTV, I … Oh btw IceflowTV, I see you’re from Canada too, we seem to have a lot of Photoshop experts in our Country hehe. Great, keep up the good work, sorry for this short intermezzo, after all we both want what’s best for beginners, right?.
I also want to add … I also want to add that I’m doing Photoshop for many years now, also own several related sites with many visitors daily, and I have NEVER EVER used quick mask. The only time I use something similar is what they call the rubylith mode, which you can get by pressing \ while working on a mask. You can leave that mode by pressing \ again. There is not a single good reason to use quick mask.
Also the use of … Also the use of Quick Mask should be avoided, it can be confusing for beginners and doesn’t save the selection. Instead one needs to focus on masks. If we had the mask added to the layer group from the start, then a the gradient wouldn’t have left the beginner with something confusing as when he closed quick mask, instead he would have seen the gradient in the mask.
The tutorial is … The tutorial is wrong. It’s not necessary to flatten the layer group and why would be, it would destroy some important layers in most cases. All you need to instead is click on the mask button, which will add a mask to the layer group based on the current selection.
Vertus Fluid Mask … Vertus Fluid Mask is just another tool, don’t expect wonders though. It’s like with many other extraction tools, techniques or plugins; they help, but none of them is the one and only solution. It’s best to learn as many extraction tools and techniques as possible.
