2 Photoshop Tutorial Basic SharpeningIt’s a little known fact that most digital photographs need some sort of sharpening to have them looking perfectly focused. In this tutorial I’ll be looking at how Photoshop produces the sharpening effect, as well as how the Sharpen, Sharpen Edges, Sharpen More and the Unsharp Mask filters work.

Thank you, MattyBoy7777! Best 10 minutes of Photoshop training I’ve ever had. I just applied your instructions to an image that was resisting my clumsy attempts to sharpen it and voilĂ . Perfection. Thanks, also, for explaining the history of the term “unsharp mask,” which has always seemed like the most illogical name possible for this tool.

Oh, and one more thanks for the tip on toggling the cursor on/off the preview panel to see effect. Exxxxxxcellent.
